KALI Returns With New Single “Anybody Else” + Tour Dates With Claud + SXSW

Hailing from Los Angeles,17-year-old singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and budding producer KALI returns to share a brand new single, “Anybody Else.” The new song follows their 2021 debut EP CIRCLES and is the first offering from their second EP, coming soon. In stark contrast to the lively, sunny instrumentation of the track, produced alongside Tony Berg, “Anybody Else” chronicles the different phases and emotions over the course of a faltering relationship. The new song highlights KALI’s journey to refine their voice as an artist and gives fans a taste of what’s ahead this year.
Speaking about the story behind the single, KALI says: “I wrote this song when I started seeing someone and shortly after I began to fall for them they left for Europe. Simultaneously my best friend was falling in love, resulting in romanticized and unrealistic expectations that I projected on to my own situationship. I got stumped in the middle of writing the song because I felt that the infatuation, I began the song with wasn’t parallel to the reality that I was falling for someone who almost wasn’t tangible. Accepting the anxiety and alarm bells this set off, subconsciously I indulged in a confrontation of self-doubt and distrust with myself, ending the song with ‘I wish I never trusted you.'”

In addition to the new single, KALI will kick off on a run of US tour dates as opening support for Claud that begins tonight in Portland and will continue across the US before wrapping up in Brooklyn at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on March 28th. They’ll also be playing a string of shows at SXSW this month, including FLOODFEST, BMI’s Day Party, Nettwerk’s showcase with Ones To Watch, The Ally Coalition & Women in Music and participating in Billboard’s Music Creation and Identity panel alongside Cartel Madras.
CIRCLES, which V Magazine described as “one of the most remarkable debuts you will hear all year,” introduced KALI with the tracks “Someone to Hold,” “I Just Wanna,” “Lucy,” and “Back to the Start.” A recognized musical talent from a young age, they play a majority of the instruments on the project themselves, with additional production from Miro Mackie (The Neighbourhood, St. Vincent, Wallows) and Daniel Chae (of Run River North). The EP synthesized KALI’s own experiences as a teenager, and those of their friends via stories and recorded voicemails, into a cohesive body of work centered around their self-discovery.

More About KALI:
A prodigy of sorts, KALI, grew up playing recitals and covering Beatles songs, taking private lessons with music teachers, going to after-school music programs, and even taking songwriting masterclasses to nourish their passion. Intuitive and eager, they taught themself how to use Garageband and began writing and demoing songs that they would later teach their first band for their shows. Their relatable and honest indie-surf arrangements drew sweaty, teenage crowds to local venues like The Smell and The Viper Room and would lead them to their now solo work as KALI, whose second project is coming soon via Nettwerk.
